THE TAKEAWAY

Measure in inches, keep the tape level and comfortable, and book a fitting if you are unsure about any number.

Before you start

Wear a light shirt and stand straight. Ask someone else to measure you. Measuring yourself usually gives wrong numbers. Keep the tape level and breathe normally.

These are your body measurements. The tailor decides how much extra room the outfit needs. If you have an old kameez that fits you well, bring it or send its measurements too.

Kameez measurements

These six measurements matter most for the kameez. Take each one twice. If the numbers are different, measure again.

  • Chest: around the widest part of your chest, with the tape level
  • Kameez length: from the top of your shoulder down to where you want the kameez to end
  • Shoulder: across your back, from one shoulder edge to the other
  • Sleeve: from the shoulder edge to your wrist, with your arm slightly bent
  • Neck: around the base of your neck, without pulling the tape tight
  • Waist: around your natural waist, standing relaxed

Shalwar measurements

Measure the shalwar length from where you tie the waistband down to your ankle. If you like a wide or narrow bottom, also measure around the bottom opening you prefer.

Hip and thigh measurements are optional, but add them if you have a preference. Leave out any measurement you are not sure about. The tailor can take it at your fitting.

Check before you send

Use the 'Share my measurements' form on the Shahzad Tailors website to send your numbers on WhatsApp. Add your fabric, collar and fit preferences too. The team will confirm the design, price and delivery date before stitching starts.
