Share your first event date when you book, buy fabric early, and keep time for one fitting before the function.
Plan backwards from the first event date
Write down the date of the first function you need an outfit for, not the main day. Then work back: time to buy and check fabric, time for the tailor's queue, time for a fitting and any adjustment, and a small buffer for pressing and collection.
Delivery time depends on the design and the workload at that moment, so ask for a confirmed date when you place the order. During the wedding and Eid rush, contacting the tailor several weeks early gives you the most choice. Mention your event date in your first message so the team can tell you honestly what is possible.
- Fabric bought and checked: length, width and colour in daylight
- Design agreed: collar, cuffs, pockets, embroidery or plain finish
- Order placed with a confirmed delivery date
- Fitting and any adjustment before the first function
Mehndi, barat and walima: one outfit per function
Many men now stitch a different outfit for each function. A lighter, brighter kurta often suits a mehndi, while a deeper colour such as maroon, charcoal or navy with a neat band collar looks composed at a barat or walima. If a waistcoat or shawl will go over the outfit, tell the tailor so the fit allows for the layer.
If you are ordering several outfits, place them together and agree which one is needed first. That way the tailor can finish them in the order of your events instead of all at the last moment.
Fabric for evening and winter weddings
Winter evening functions are often cooler than daytime summer events. Compare the weight and weave of actual samples: a heavier cotton, khaddar or a blended wash & wear may sit and hang differently from a light summer lawn or latha. Ask to see how each sample drapes over your hand before deciding.
For a formal look, choose a fabric that holds a crisp collar and placket after pressing. Keep the supplier's care instructions, especially for blends, so the outfit can be cleaned and pressed safely between functions.
Leave time for a final fitting
Try the outfit on before the function, not on the morning of it. Sit, raise your arms and walk. Check the collar, shoulder, sleeve length and the shalwar's length with the shoes you will wear.
If anything needs adjusting, there is still time to discuss it with the tailor. Shahzad Tailors in Kot Addu confirms design, price and delivery date on WhatsApp or at the shop before stitching begins.
