THE TAKEAWAY

Say how you want to feel in the outfit. “Comfortable when seated” is more useful than choosing a fit label on its own.

Bring a reference you can explain

A photograph can help communicate a collar, sleeve or overall silhouette. A favourite outfit can be even more useful: point out which details you like and which you would change. A reference is a direction, not a guarantee that a different fabric will drape in exactly the same way.

Bring the footwear you expect to wear if you want to discuss the relationship between the trouser hem and your shoes. Mention the occasion and event date so the team can confirm what is possible.

Unstitched fabric length: why width matters before buying

Check the outfit in motion

During the fitting, take a few steps, sit down and gently reach forward. Explain where the garment feels tight, pulls or creates more fullness than you prefer. Let the tailor assess the adjustment rather than deciding that every crease means the same thing.

  • Notice whether the collar feels comfortable when fastened.
  • Check sleeve movement and your preferred cuff position.
  • Discuss the kameez length from the front and side.
  • Try the waistband at the position where you actually wear it.

Measurements and preferences work together

Body measurements describe your size; the finished garment also needs an agreed amount of room for movement. A slim, regular or relaxed label does not explain every preference. Tell the team where you like a closer silhouette and where you need more ease.

If you share measurements online, state that they are body measurements and use the units shown in the form. Do not mix measurements from an old garment with body measurements without explaining the difference. When unsure, discuss an in-store fitting before stitching.

Confirm the next step before leaving

Ask which adjustments have been agreed, whether another fitting is needed and when collection can be confirmed. Describe any remaining concerns clearly. Shahzad Tailors confirms fitting arrangements, price, adjustment terms and delivery dates directly with you; preparing a website inquiry does not confirm an appointment.
