THE TAKEAWAY

Choose an actual fabric you can assess, rather than buying on an easy-care promise alone.

What does wash & wear fabric contain?

Retailers sell men's blended fabrics under several names. The Gul 900 Galaxy page describes a blended wash & wear fabric, but its product description does not give fibre percentages. That means we cannot responsibly call this specific item polyester-viscose, pure cotton or a particular blend ratio.

Ask the retailer for the composition if it affects your choice. Do the same for a cotton listing: look for an explicit fibre statement and keep it with the purchase. Two fabrics with similar photographs may have different weights, finishes and care requirements.

Compare the sample for daily and office wear

For office shalwar kameez, consider the hours you will wear it, how much you sit and the finish you prefer after a working day. Fold and handle the sample, then discuss whether its drape supports your chosen collar, cuffs and pocket. A supplier's easy-care description does not promise an outfit that never needs pressing.

If you like the feel of cotton, compare it directly with the blend instead of choosing from a name alone. If your routine makes maintenance the priority, read the blend's actual care instructions. The most useful comparison is the one that includes your own comfort and available laundry routine.

  • Composition: what does the seller explicitly state?
  • Drape: how does it fall, and does it suit your preferred silhouette?
  • Coverage: how does your chosen colour look in daylight?
  • Care: what wash, dry and iron methods are actually permitted?

Is wash & wear for summer or winter?

The label alone does not answer that. Check the particular fabric's weight, construction and any season description from its supplier. The linked Galaxy listing has no stated season, so we have not labelled it a winter or summer product.

For warm weather, compare how a sample feels with the coverage you need. For cooler weather, consider the layers you plan to wear and leave comfortable room for them at the fitting. A darker colour or a winter-themed photograph is not evidence that a fabric will keep you warm.

Agree on preparation, care and fit before cutting

Share the product link and supplier instructions with the tailor before any soaking, steaming or cutting. Fabric preparation should follow the specific material's guidance. Do not use a high-temperature cotton ironing routine on an unidentified blend.

At Shahzad Tailors, bring a favourite outfit or describe where you need more movement. The fabric and the amount of ease work together: buying a different blend cannot fix a fit that does not suit your routine. Confirm your quote, fitting arrangements and delivery availability directly with the team.
